SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 5
(By Senators Wooton, Bailey, Sharpe and Holliday)
Commemorating the passing of the Honorable Bernard L. Crawford
of Beckley, former member of the Senate of West Virginia.
Whereas, The Honorable Bernard L. Crawford, who represented
Raleigh and Wyoming counties in the West Virginia Senate from
1967 to 1970, died September 15, 1992, at the age of 68; and
Whereas, The Honorable Bernard L. Crawford returned from
completing his duty with the United States Army Medical Corps
during World War II to become actively involved in business,
community and civic affairs in Beckley for many years; and
Whereas, The Honorable Bernard L. Crawford was appointed to
the Senate December 1, 1967, and was subsequently elected in 1968
to the unexpired term of the Honorable George C. Porter, who died
while in office; and
Whereas, The Honorable Bernard L. Crawford was vice chair of
the Senate Committee on Transportation and was a member of the
Agriculture, Education, Insurance and Corporations, Judiciary,
Labor and Public Institutions committees during his tenure in the
Senate; and
Whereas, The Honorable Bernard L. Crawford also served as
vice president of the West Virginia Theatre Owners Association,
past master of the Beckley Masonic Lodge and member and chairmanof the Beckley Police Civil Service Commission; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate:
That the Senate hereby expresses its deepest regret at the
passing of this former member and distinguished citizen; and, be
it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to
forward a copy of this resolution to the surviving members of the
family of the Honorable Bernard L. Crawford.
